Are your walking tours really free?
Yes. Reserving a spot costs nothing. At the end of the tour you tip your guide whatever you feel the experience was worth — that's how the guides are paid.
How much should I tip?
There's no set amount. Many people tip around $10–$25 per person for a 2–3 hour tour, adjusting for how much they enjoyed it and their budget. Cash is easiest, and most guides also take cards or apps.
Do I need to book in advance?
We recommend reserving a free spot online so your guide knows the group size, and walk-ups are welcome whenever there's room. In peak season (spring, summer and the holidays) tours fill up, so booking ahead is the safest bet.
Where do the tours start?
Each route has one fixed, easy-to-find meeting point next to a subway station — for example the Charging Bull at Bowling Green for Lower Manhattan, Columbus Circle for Central Park, and the Apollo Theater for Harlem. You'll find the exact spot and nearest trains on each tour's page and on your booking confirmation.
How long are the tours?
Most routes take about 2 to 2.5 hours at a relaxed pace with plenty of photo stops.
Do the tours run in bad weather?
Tours run rain or shine — just bring an umbrella or a layer. In the rare case of severe weather (a storm, or an extreme-heat advisory) we email everyone who reserved and offer another time or date.
Are the tours suitable for children?
Yes, families are welcome. Central Park and the Brooklyn Bridge are the easiest routes for kids. Everything is on foot, so bring comfortable shoes and water.
Are tours wheelchair accessible?
Most of each route follows flat public sidewalks, but a few spots have cobblestones or steps. If you have specific access needs, email us before your tour and we'll tell you exactly what to expect and help where we can.
Do you offer tours in Spanish?

How big are the groups?
We keep groups small — usually up to 20 people — so everyone can hear the guide and ask questions.
